This distinguished Texas physician, deeply rooted in the scientific world, has become an internationally influential advocate of the role of the mind in health and the role of spirituality in healthcare. Bringing the experience of a practicing internist and the soul of a poet to the discourse, Dr. Larry Dossey offers panoramic insight into the nature and the future of medicine.

Upon graduating with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Dossey worked as a pharmacist while earning his M.D. degree from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, 1967. Before completing his residency in internal medicine, he served as a battalion surgeon in Vietnam, where he was decorated for valor. Dr. Dossey helped establish the Dallas Diagnostic Association, the largest group of internal medicine practitioners in that city, and was Chief of Staff of Medical City Dallas Hospital in 1982.

An education steeped in traditional Western medicine did not prepare Dr. Dossey for patients who were blessed with "miracle cures," remissions that clinical medicine could not explain. "Almost all physicians possess a lavish list of strange happenings unexplainable by normal science," says Dr. Dossey. "A tally of these events would demonstrate, I am convinced, that medical science not only has not had the last word, it has hardly had the first word on how the world works, especially when the mind is involved."

The author of nine books and numerous articles, Dr. Dossey is the former Executive Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, the most widely subscribed-to journal in its field. The primary quality of all of Dr. Dossey's work is scientific legitimacy, with an insistent focus on "what the data show." As a result, his colleagues in medical schools and hospitals all over the country trust him, honor his message, and continually invite him to share his insights with them. He has lectured all over the world, including major medical schools and hospitals in the United States --Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, the Universities of Pennsylvania, California, Washington, Texas, Florida, Minnesota, and the Mayo Clinic.

The impact of Dr. Dossey's work has been remarkable. Before his book Healing Words was published in 1993, only three U.S. medical schools had courses devoted to exploring the role of religious practice and prayer in health; currently, nearly 80 medical schools have instituted such courses, many of which utilize Dr. Dossey's works as textbooks. In his 1989 book Recovering the Soul, he introduced the concept of "nonlocal mind" -- mind unconfined to the brain and body, mind spread infinitely throughout space and time. Since then, "nonlocal mind" has been adopted by many leading scientists as an emerging image of consciousness. Dr. Dossey's ever-deepening explication of nonlocal mind provides a legitimate foundation for the merging of spirit and medicine. The ramifications of such a union are radical and call for no less than the reinvention of medicine.

I think premonition, intuition and remote viewing are one in the same. My current curiosity is about how time and reality shifts play into these things.
I was at work one day, sanding a door, and had a quick..very quick sequence of events shown to me, and was told, I guess by a feeling more so than a voice, that I would have a terrible wreck, but that I would be OK. The visions played out before I knew what the outcome was going to be, but the whole thing lasted maybe 5 seconds.
On another day, I took a picture of my car once all cleaned and an image appeared on my car where, only a couple months later, I WAS t-boned at 55 mph. I knew all the details in advance, down to the street, and time of day, since I saw it all in advance. I have a lot of things like that happen, as a remote viewer, but with the reality shifts I have a lot of questions about remembering the past, or is this a futuristic vision..strange times indeed

I don't know why this is amusing to some people. Actually it's very simple. There is a universal mind or collective mind that knows everything, past, present, future. Sometimes people connect into this mind usually while in a kind of trance,. For instance the guy bellow in this comments while sanding a door in a repetitive manner, he was in the "zone". Nowadays when people don't allow their minds to wander because of phones, computers, TV, etc they are always operating in their conscious mind.

This is my story:

In the night of 9/11 I dreamt there was a lot of dust(not fire), it was very dark, I felt a lot of overwhelming radiation and I couldn't breath(no oxygen) so I wake up in that scary dream I had. 9-10 hours later I want to the house of my parents for dinner. My mother said there is something happening. I told her that there must be something wrong in Evere, Brussels with NATO. No she said, it is in New York standing before the television we saw the life news. I told her about the dream I had. 6 hours before the events? How can those radiation, waves come over the Atlantic Ocean so strongly and 9 hours before the events. I didn't want to tell to much people about because they would think I would like to be interesting. I talked about whether I would write it here, but I had to communicate this one day. One never knows why that could be useful. That can not be a coincidence, is it? I know I am a high sensitive person. I live north of Brussels. Never been in New York, only in Florida, L.A., San Francisco, Las Vegas.... I swear it is really true but do not understand it. I am not the most religion person. I can not remember most of my dreams but I remember that dream very well. I dreamt in my dream I was dying. The time difference between New York and Brussels is 6 hours.

I believe you Mister because of my own experience that day.
Is Premonition something for High Sensitive persons or not? Can they feel more then other people? John Lennon was a high sensitive person.

I was very pleased to have watched this. I'm to be added to the list of people that have had very clear premonitions during my meditation. Within days to a week, they have all comed to pass. Yes, I've have premonitions that have saved lives.

Thanks for posting this interesting video that should be made aware of

I don't get them often, but when I get one in a dream, I have found that it comes to pass about three-months later. When I was young, I didn't realize this, and would always get a strong sense of deja vu, forgetting I dreamed of it 3 months earlier. Now I expect the event to occur and count down the days, even. As it is, I don't get them very often. On Dec 22, 2013, I had what I felt to be a premonition dream in which I received a lot of money (like in the millions). Hence, per the rule, I am giving it a 3-month period of time to come to pass - and I am very excited about it, indeed.

I am surprised that this is something 'new' for some people and still debated it's like it might not be true. If you really want to know more about the future/past/present probabilities and how things are lined up in our lives (what is predestined and how much of our life is free will), you need to look into 'Baba Vanga', surprisingly not very popular in Western Europe and beyond. She is the one to be studied if you want to know the truth about this topic - not that far from what's been discussed in this video but I won't spoil the join of your research - if you are interested enough of course.

Time itself is a strange concept. Its purpose exists to make math easy based on how we as humans chose to model it as to denote changes in physical space (x occupied this position and then moved to position y a second later). But the choice of time is arbitrary. I like to imagine if someone could see in on the outside of our universe the would see a circle from begging to end (they would not just see the moment in which they observing). Quantum mechanics seems so baffling because the Schrodinger equation model in time independent solution gives us set states of energy that are set values. In classical mechanics all systems evolve with time, applying this to the Schrodinger equation to solve for the position of an electron in space only yields probabilities of a set position which changes. All that aside though I only have maybe had only 1 time of a true premonition which is beautiful and baffling. 3 years ago I had just returned from a chemistry conference and went to see my mom because she was not feeling well. I talked with her 30 minutes or so and then said goodbye and told her I loved her (not rare), I got to the door opened it and don't really know or understand why but I turned around and went back to give her a hug( very rare been living by myself for 3.5 years at that point and havent hugged her since i dont remember) and told I loved her one more time. 2 hours later I was called on the phone to be told my mom suffered a major heart and was brain dead from lack of oxygen for about 6 minutes without breathing [she died a day later]. At the time I didn't think much of my previous actions but it shook me to my core and is a very powerful moment for me because I still cant comprehend why I hesitated and turned back.

Theoretical Physicist now believe that both our past & our future is already mapped out, from the big bang right on threw. I seen a video by Theoretical Physicist Brian Greene, I'm sure its on YouTube somewhere, where he illustrates this as a giant loaf of bread that can be cut & shaped different ways that shape our reality that we go threw, keep in mind this is one of the leading Theoretical Physicist in the world.

I believe(*long before I seen that video) that we somehow 'Tap Into' not only our future but also other dimensions/realities when we dream. I've had a few dreams that eventually came true, 100% no doubt what so ever.

But also the 'Detail' in the many other dreams I have?... just too much for our minds to just 'Make Up' IMO... That's where I believe we are somehow tapping into other realities ;-)

A key element in any healing process is the capacity of each patient to see their own unique meaning in events. In part one of this two part program, Dr. Larry Dossey describes several case histories in which this quality of meaning was crucial to understanding the disease process. He concludes by talking about the role of consciousness and the concept of oneness.

In part two of the full DVD, he discusses the role of prayer in healing, maintaining that studies now indicate that prayer can be efficacious. The type of prayer that is shown to be most effective involves an altered state of consciousness. Dr. Dossey then refers to the studies of Lawrence LeShan that emphasize the healer becoming at one with the patient. He concludes by suggesting that all true healing involves the spiritual nature of men and women.

Larry Dossey, M.D., is a physician and a leading light in the field of alternative medicine. He is author of Space, Time and Medicine; Beyond Illness; Recovering the Soul and Meaning and Medicine. His latest book is The Power of Premonitions.

This is an interesting clip, thank you for posting. Dr. Dossey had a huge effect on my life when I heard him speak about prayer in the 90s.

There always is karma and "other cosmic meaning" that affect everyone, including spiritual enthusiasts, teachers, and saints (as mentioned in this video). I have never believed we can create everything we want, either--or that "consciousness is everything" in the way you seem to mean this.

So many people are so wired to think negatively, though, and this has such a deleterious effect on their lives. It seems there must be a fine line regarding how to present this type of information. I like the way my Qigong master, Chunyi Lin says it--when we do the five elements movement for the metal element which is associated with the lungs and with helping to clear depression--he says, "Your purpose is to live a happy, healthy, joyful life. Bring your focus back to how much joy you have. You won't have time or room to feel the sadness and grief anymore." We must learn to try to clear negativity through positive thinking. Our thoughts, after all, are so powerful.

Also, all of us who are not ready for enlightenment have to die from something.

LOVE Dr. Larry's work and thoughts! I find/believe the 'distance stare' does work. Consider the 'love bomb' notion/thought. I've discovered that when I feel someone staring at me and I return the stare 'intentioned' with a 'love bomb' thought, the other individual's facial expressions change, more often then not, for the better! I believe that Divine LOVE is the 'glue' of the one mind consciousness. LOVE is ALL...Love MEANS All - at least for me. Peace...and more LOVE! Keep Inspiring with your work Michael and Jessica!

Met Dr. Dossey back in I believe 1980 at medical city Dallas. He seemed like a very genuine guy. Which his life over the intervening years has certainly confirmed. Thank you both for this exceptional interview.

At the end, the "Homework" portion, Dr. Dossey cites the late Angeles Arrien - "The Four-Fold Way: Show up. Pay attention. Tell the truth. Don't be attached to outcome." Wanted to share this gem just found on Ted-x, a talk she gave maybe a year or more before she passed away. Mind: Blown. (In a good way) ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kDRRBK95no

The average person thinks thousands of thoughts every single day. Not only are most of these thoughts the same thoughts they had yesterday, but a lot of these thoughts are dwelling on something negative in the past or fearing something that could happen in the future.

As you'll discover in this video, these types of thoughts actually have the potential to force the body to experience the 'fight or flight' response (anxiety).

When dealing with any form of anxiety or overwhelming stress, reaching out for professional help is very important.
